Painting the Town Red with #DCinWhite

Do you ever stop to smell the roses? Do you look at life in rose-colored glasses? When life seems to throw you nothing but dark, sadistic turns, when will you finally lead your own path towards light? (read in a Carrie Bradshaw voice – I promise you’ll find it funny).

Don’t worry – I’m not about to deliver a long-winded sermon. But I will preach about the wonderful #DCinWhite party I attended Thursday, May 14th. A couple of friends and I sauntered over to the Penthouse Pool Club in Navy Yard (just a few blocks away from the Navy Yard Metro stop) in our best white ensembles to ring in warmer weather and brighter perspectives. Coming from Austin, I was craving outdoor events that mingled breezy outfits with tropical beverages.

The notoriously hilarious Bitches Who Brunch – a group of women who review the hottest brunch spots across Washington, D.C., New York and Chicago, hosted the event. Partners included Three Day Rule (a matchmaking service) and Becky’s Fund (a nonprofit dedicated to preventing domestic violence).

Throughout the evening, we sipped on unforgivably mouthwatering piña coladas featuring Don Q rum. Mojitos and white wine were also available – but they weren’t on the top of my list.

White jeans and a tantalizing piña colada.

When the sun set and temperatures dropped, we were thankful for the fire pit radiating warmth and an attractive glow. Overall, the event was effortlessly fun. The crowd? Let’s just say some men and women could benefit from some guidance – perhaps a personal styling company can co-host next year? After all, #DCinWhite was a clothing-focused affair.

How's that for a natural glow?

Luckily, no one’s crisp whites were ruined with spilled beverages (and not a soul fell into that glorious swimming pool). If the girls host #DCinWhite again, I’ll be sure to attend. Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to break out your summer whites – with the right shoes, of course (;
